Come Grow Fins with Us!
The mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA Stingrays is:
"To build strong spirits, minds, and bodies while achieving excellence in swimming and in life."
The structure of the UPYMCA Stingrays “RAYS” is a plan to developed not only great swimmers but establish a plan for the development of the athlete as a whole person – physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially. Participation in sports should be designed to develop a sense of enjoyment, inclusion, and mastery in whatever sports the child chooses. It is the focus of the UPYMCA swimming program to not merely be a place for children to experience the great sport that swimming is but also to develop their technical expertise in the sport of swimming.
We are dedicated to offering the opportunity, encouragement, and excitement for all of our RAYS to embrace the commitment of their pursuit of excellence. Through this process of each RAY pursuing to be the best they can be, our RAYS acquire the life enhancing skills such as integrity, self-worth, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The guidelines listed throughout the group descriptions for practice and meets are mostly suggestions by the coaching staff, some are strong suggestions! It is our job as professional coaches to get your swimmer to want to come to practice. We look at each swimmer as their own individual and everyone is different. Stages of development are different for every swimmer just like in all aspects of life. There are early maturer’s and late bloomers, however the progression we have established allows for growth and development for each and every stringray who buys in. There is a place for every swimmer to foster a passion for the sport and a love for swimming in general that will last them a lifetime.
